Module 2 — Dr. Tan’s Point Prescriptions

This course will expand on the core principles taught in “Dr. Tan’s Core Essentials.”  All participants must have attended multiple Core Essentials seminars before advancing to this fast-paced, highly detailed coursework. Specific treatments, case studies, and demonstrations will be provided throughout.


This robust 3-day seminar includes:

  • Deep discussion on the treatment of functional and internal disorders
  • Clinical presentation of Yangming, Shaoyang, and Taiyang patterns
  • Use of the Imaging format to treat internal concerns and full-body pain
  • Advanced treatments specific to male and female disorders, such as Dr. Tan’s Eight Magical Points
  • Actual case study explorations of internal syndromes including digestive, respiratory, gynecological, and emotional disorders
  • Exploration of Meridian Conversion—the relationship of channels to the hexagrams, a specialized application of Dr. Tan’s Global-Balance Ba-Gua methods
  • Development of simple treatments that affect the body at a deep energetic level
  • Explanation of Zang-Fu diagnosis and associated Meridian diagnosis for devising effective herbal and acupuncture treatments
  • Discussion of difficult cases and hands-on demonstration showing practical applications of choosing and combining methods


Detailed Program

Day 1:
  • Review of Imaging and Mirroring Formats
  • Explanation of the logical structure of the 5 Balance Method Systems
  • Discussion of several conditions and their treatments
    • Functional diseases
    • Respiratory diseases
    • Shen conditions
    • Hormone disorders
  • Recognizing Yangming and Shaoyang disease patterns
  • Dr. Tan’s 4 Magical Points for “narrow front”
  • Demonstrations and case study explorations

Day 2:

  • Recognizing Taiyang disease patterns
  • Dr. Tan’s 4 Magical Points for kidney disorders
  • Discussion of several conditions and their treatments
    • Low back pain
    • Infertility / OB/GYN-concerns
    • Male disorders (ie, prostate disease, infertility, erectile dysfunction)
    • Heat diagnoses
    • Chronic illness
  • Integrating herbal treatments with acupuncture
  • 8 Magical Points for hormone disorders
  • Demonstrations and case study explorations

Day 3:

  • I Ching Theory and Meridian relationship to Ba Gua
  • The 5 Shu-Transporting Points
  • Needling the 5 Transporting points as they correspond to the Yaos
  • Historic uses of Zang-Fu diagnosis to create herbal treatments
  • Equating Zang-Fu diagnosis to Meridian Diagnosis
  • Devising treatments based on Meridian Conversion Therapy
  • Demonstrations and case study explorations

There are no pre-requisites for Module 1.

Eileen Yue-Ling Han, PhD, LAc. (New York Class)

An exclusive, lifelong disciple of her Shifu (master) Dr. Richard Tan, Eileen Han is passionately dedicated to continuing the practice, inspiration, and influence of the Balance Method, his extremely effective, world-renowned acupuncture methodology.

In 1999, Eileen began her medical studies and an apprenticeship in Dr. Tan’s San Diego, California clinic. As his student, she honed her implementation of the Balance Method, eventually becoming one of the top 5% of leading practitioners of the methodology worldwide. Over the past 15+ years, Eileen has continually honed her skill into a healing art, bringing relief and wellness to countless, thankful patients through her clinic practice.

Eileen holds a Ph.D. in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from American Liberty University in Newport Beach, CA, and a Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine from the University of East/West Medicine in Sunnyvale, California. She supplements her formal and practical education with continuing studies in Ba Zi and Chinese face reading.



Jim Westmoreland, LAC. (Charlotte Class)

Dr. Jim Westmoreland, L.Ac., has been a practitioner and teacher of Asian healing and martial arts for more than four decades. As a direct disciple of Dr. Tsoa Wang, he was classically trained in the Wang family systems until he met Dr. Tan in 2000.

Now, after years of study with the late Dr. Tan, he exclusively treats patients with the Balance Method and is committed to sharing and expanding the wisdom and knowledge obtained from his Master: “I believe that the body itself is imbued with a deep and abiding innate wisdom which can be activated through the processes of acupuncture and Chinese medicine to restore health and bring balance to all.”
